J Camps Open Positions

J Camps, located at the JCC of Greater Baltimore, is looking for energetic, dedicated staff members who are interested in working in a fun, creative camp environment this summer. Our programming has a variety of focuses including aquatics, arts & culture, athletics, nature, science and more with a foundation of Judaism. In addition, our training includes child development workshops, skill sharing, and certification in Basic Water Safety and CPR. We hire on a rolling basis.  Our main summer season is June 24 – August 16, 2024, and we offer excellent camper discounts for summer staff.  While most of our positions are full-time, we do have a few that run for only select weeks. The J Camps Baltimore Team is seeking a passionate leader to serve as the Middle School Camp Director for our popular program Top Notch Teens (TNT). Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Operations, this position will manage day-to-day communications and assist with developing the creative direction of the TNT volunteer and Day camp program. This will include, management of TNT staff schedules, placements in younger bunks, Day camp schedule, afternoon electives and workshops, special events and field trips.

Our camp Music Specialist/ Song leader has the joyous role of bringing music to camp. Create the soundtrack to summer and build core memories for years to come. Group instruction will be both classroom style (Small groups up to 18) and large event based (Flagpole/Shabbat) to teach, sing, and/or lead campers in music-based activities. As an essential leader to the overall atmosphere of camp, this person should have presence and ability to motivate people of all ages and backgrounds.

Ropes Course Specialists are responsible for facilitating daily ropes course activities to campers from entering Kindergarten to our teen programs. Position will work outside on low ropes elements, zipline, and high ropes elements. This position works on a team that is led by the Head of Ropes.

The Nature Specialist will facilitate daily instruction to campers ages 4-12 in an outdoor environment primarily based in a wooded area. Habimah Arts Camp is a multi-disciplinary summer camp giving children in grades 1-6 a chance to work with master performing and visual arts teaching artists and professionals. Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Arts Education, the ideal teaching artist is prepared to be a role model within their field, has experience and loves teaching children of all ages, and has extensive experience in their art form.  The ideal candidate would include someone who enjoys working with young people and/or theatre for young audiences.  These positions also require teaching classes within their art form to campers.  Looking for teaching artists in a variety of theatrical, visual, performance, and any similar fields.  Some include, but are not limited to visual arts, dance, acting, voice, stage combat, mime, stage makeup, puppetry, musical theatre, and costume and set design.

This is a fulltime position between June 24 – August 16, 2024.

This summer, J Camps will be offering two theatre arts camps. The first is Habimah Arts Camp, a multi-disciplinary camp giving children exposure and skill-building in both visual and performing arts. Habimah counselors will assist and help support the teaching artists to ensure that campers have a successful and enjoyable experience, as well as assist in the smooth run of the final showcase. With the guidance and mentorship of the director, selected senior counselors will gain valuable arts education experience by leading age-appropriate classes that are within their expertise.

For two four-week sessions, Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC) will offer additional performance production-based camps, preparing full length age appropriate musicals. Selected counselors will be working with the director to help run rehearsals, review material with campers, work backstage for the production, and any other duties assigned to them in relation to the show.

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Arts Education, our ideal candidate is prepared to be a role model to their team and campers alike, has a can-do demeanor, has experience and loves working with children, and has experience in or avid appreciation for the performing arts.  Counselors may be placed to work in one or both camps, dependent on experience.

The J Camps Baltimore Team is seeking a creative team-player to serve as the J Camps Videographer. This position will be responsible for capturing video footage of campers and staff throughout the camp day and using that footage to create J Camps Weekly Highlight videos. The J Camps Assistant Inclusion Director, under the leadership of the J Camps Inclusion Director, and working closely with the J Camps team, will assist in the management and oversight of the J Camps summer inclusion program. This will include assisting with staff training, supervision, behavior consultation, crisis management, program modification, and communication with staff and participating families.

The position will run full-time from June 24 to August 16, 2024, with additional pre-camp orientation. Part-time hours starting in May 2024 are preferred for the ideal candidate.

Habimah is a multi-disciplinary summer camp giving children, grades from 1st – 6th, the experience working with Baltimore’s master performing and visual arts teaching artists and professionals. It is the programs’ goal to enhance campers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to explore new horizons while offering exposure and skill-building in various realms within visual and performing arts in a warm and supportive environment. Each camp day consists of several workshops within these fields, and concluding each two-week camp session, there is a final showcase on the Gordon stage, demonstrating what they’ve learned. Outside of class time with the artists, this program also incorporates swimming, outdoor time, and field trips.

The Habimah Arts Director will be responsible for maintaining high standards with the appointed teaching artists and counselor staff, parent correspondence, administrative assignments, directing and coordinating biweekly showcases, and other duties assigned by the DYAE. The ideal Habimah director is a multi-tasking team player, an excellent communicator, willing to go above and beyond for Habimah families and staff, is prepared to be a role model within the arts and JCC communities and has experience and loves teaching children of all ages. The Habimah Arts Director must have an overall understanding and wide range of experience within several fields of the performing and visual arts. This position may also require teaching a few classes within their art form to campers. Must have reliable transportation. Applicants with full summer availability is required.

The Logistics Coordinator serves as a vital role in executing daily camp operations. They are responsible for hot lunch operations, ordering camp supplies, tracking purchasing expenses, communicating with camp parents, and daily transportation. They serve as a part of the J Camps Summer Leadership Team.

Our camp cooking specialist will have the exciting role of bringing cooking to J Camps. They will create an 8-week cooking curriculum that will teach our campers new skills. The ideal candidate will be asked to have a strong understanding of camper food allergies and Kashrut (Kosher Policy).

Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC) at JCamps is hiring a full-time Assistant Director for the upcoming 2024 summer season. In two four-week sessions, CTPC will offer two musical theatre production-based summer camps for grades from 1st – 8th. Each camp day will include musical theatre preparatory classes, auditions, rehearsal, and the final product of a full production.
